Image 1Time to Read series

A brand new Early Reader series from Frances Lincoln Children's Books. The layout and size of the books is great and the balance between pictures and word will encourage reading from picture books into chapter books. Even the font style makes it easy to read and the 'a's are the right shape!

'Who Ate Auntie Iris' is one of the first four books, written by Sean Taylor and illustrated by Hannah Shaw. There are some great character pictures and Auntie Iris lives a the top of the tall block of flats with some very interesting neighbours (all with sharp teeth!).

For a set of books for ages 5/6 'ish these are a good buy for parents and for schools alike.

You can buy direct from Amazon by clicking on the picture. All books bought through us support our work in Nepal with Kalpana.

Image 1Stories of Magic and Mystery from Scotland.

I just love the cover of this book and illustrator Cate James has continued the magic through all the stories.

Lari Don, an acclaimed story teller, has spent most of her life in Scotland, and she has compiled these ten magical and funny stories into Breaking The Spell.

They are all stories from Scotland told to children north of the border.

And with all stories, they change ever so slightly in the telling....and Lari hopes that these stories will come alive with whoever reads them and passes them on.

Stories include; The Selkie's Toes, The Witch of Lochlann and The King of the Black Art.

A great book from Frances Lincoln publishers, a magical present to share.

maxMax is a small boy mad about sport, and every day Max imagines that he is the most successful sports person, taking parts in all sorts of exciting sports.

In his world, he dives into an Olympic swimming pool, he takes the lead in the bob sleigh and he scores a winning goal in an amazing football team.

His friends are there in his dreams too, and in the illustrations, which speak as much as the words, you can find many aspects of disability and inclusion. Look carefully and you will find a hearing aid and an oxygen tube, and more...

What a wealth of opportunity for all children and a book that will go down really well in the classroom as teachers can use both as a good story book and also as a real resource for inclusion and disabilities as part of everyday life.

Max the Champion, written by Sean Stockdale and Alexandra Strick and illustrated by Ros Asquith and published by Frances Lincoln. As publishers, they are amazing at delivering books that are both great reads and meet the needs of our diverse and rich culture.

You can buy this book through Dolphin Booksellers today.

567A most beautiful story, from Jackie Morris with her wonderful illustrations of a polar bear, forests, skies and seas. A story, which Jackie describes as...

" ...there are some stories that when you hear them for the very first time it is as if you know them, as they are part of your soul. You then spend the rest of your life trying to understand them.... It is a journey, an adventure, a love story that in the writing took an unexpected turn."

It is a magical story and a book to treasure and return to. It will make you go back to it and try and relive the story or find yourself as the girl seeking through all the winds to find her lost love in the castle east of the sun and west of the moon.

Published by Frances Lincoln the book is available via this Amazon link. The format of the book is wonderful with a neat hardcover. It's a book for a present and especially for yourself too, a treat and a joy.

Jackie lives in a small house by the sea in Pembrokeshire where she writes and paints. She has a range of wonderful books, such as The Snow Leopard and Can You See a Little Bear?  Jackie's website is a dream and is worth hours of exploring.

There is a competition to win the necklace from East of the Sun, West of the Moon on Jackie's blog.

Dolphin Booksellers have a new logo!

The dolphins leap over the waves and the sun shines in the sky! We are delighted with the logo created by graphic designer, Jim Simpson.

It indicates a real feel of the Dolphin ethos, extending horizons, social and intelligent. The sense of movement which dolphins have as they swim in groups across the oceans.

Dolphins, still for us an important symbol of the real importance of reading, extending imaginations, sharing, and finding out about the world.Read about the dolphins in Ireland on our Dolphin page. When we started Dolphin Booksellers, we knew that good books, communication and reading for children across the world was important.

It's more than a great place to be, children's books are a real birthplace of ideas and innovation.

House Held up By Trees

By Ted Kooser
and illustrated by Jon Klassen is new this month from Walker Books UK.

Have you ever played in a house in the trees? Maybe you have a rope ladder that only you could climb. Or even a very special tree that was nearly flat and let you climb right up into its branches.

This very moving story in a picture book format has beautiful illustrations and leaves you with a real feeling of time moving on.

'When the house was new, not a single tree remained on its perfect lawn to give shade from the sun. The children in the house trailed the scent of wild trees to neighbouring lots, where thick bushes offered secret places to play. When the children grew up and moved away, their father, alone in the house, continued his battle against blowing seeds, plucking out sprouting trees – until one day he, too, moved away. Then, as the empty house began its decline, the trees began to take over. At once wistful and exhilarating, this lovely, lyrical story evokes the inexorable passage of time – and the awe-inspiring power of nature to lift us up.'

Walker Books UK

A book to share or to read alone. but definitely a book that will leave you with past lingering memories.

Ted Kooser, US Poet Laureat for 2004 - 2006, a poet and essayist and writes across genres in amazing ways.

Mrs Muffly lives by herself in a house on the top of the hill.

But why is she now buying loads and loads of food? Maybe there really is large and dangerous monster in the house?

A beautiful story which sets children thinking about jumping to conclusions and what can happen when you make assumptions.

The drawings and pencil illustrations are stylish and appealing, Sarah Dyer has a brilliant use of colour and space.

Sarah has written and illustrated many children's books and in 2001 her first book, Five Little Fiends won the Smarties Bronze Award.

Frances Lincoln  published Mrs Muffly's Monster and Monster Day at Work in the summer of 2011. Both are available in paperback and can be bought through the links above.

Stories the world over...

Children and authors using exciting technology to talk across the globe.

Next trip underway between Australia and the UK. Meetings planned with schools and classes of children. Great letters came back from 4D in Balgowlah Heights to Ifeoma Onyefulu, and letters to Lindy Batchelor in Sydney from Babraham Primary School. See them now on Books Go Walkabout.

We are meeting with authors in Australia and the UK in the next few weeks,to build those bridges and bring more books and stories to children from all over.

In Nigeria, children anxious to get hold of books, we can just make that happen and in an inexpensive way too.

Keep in touch with the project Books Go Walkabout, maybe there are some links you would like to make.
